Betar is a nationalist Zionist youth movement founded in 1923 by Ze’ev Jabotinsky.  The acronym of Betar stands for Brit Yosef Trumpeldor (the Covenant of Joseph Trumpeldor) and is set to remember his legacy.  Trumpeldor was a Jewish soldier who fell in the Battle of Tel Hai.  His emblemizing quote is, “Never mind, it is good to die for one’s country.”  Many of Israel’s leaders, past and present, are former Betar members including Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Shamir, Former Defense Minister Moshe Arens, and the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Salai Meridor.

Betar USA is run from Cleveland, Ohio and aims to carry on the legacy of nationalistic Zionism to future generations.

This website is full of wonderful pictures and important information to help readers understand the rich history of Betar.

       Enjoy and Tel Hai.

“In every generation and in every country, I swear unto you, Rosh Betar, Ze’ev Jabotinsky, to remain loyal to your ideals—the ideals of Betar, to the banner of Betar, and to the name of Betar.”

-Last week Betar sent 120 letters to children in Sderot.  Kol Hakavod to everyone who participated in this project.
-The Betar/ZOA photo exhibit is at Green Road Synagogue this week for Pesach. If you still haven't seen it, make sure you check it out. It is very powerful!
-Also, we are still collecting money to help repair bomb shelters in Sderot. Checks can be sent to Betar (2121 S. Green Rd. South Euclid, OH 44121) and should be made payable to "Sderot Media Center." In the memo line write-"Shelter renovation project."
2) Case Western Reserve-
There was a letter/petition (written by a Betariyah- M.R.) circulating for high school students to sign that expresses concern over the recent rise in anti-Semitism and anti-Israel rhetoric at CWRU and basically says that we are hesitant to apply to CWRU unless the university takes steps to resolve the situation.
The letter was handed in last week, and our sources tell us that it is having a BIG effect ! Kol Hakavod!
