Recent developments from the '08 fall semester(already!!) of anti-Israel and anti-Jewish activities on campus. For More
Check it out now:
1) Case Western Reserve University: CWRU hosted Norman Finkelstein (see details on who he is below) on Thursday Dec. 11, 2008. It is very important that we send the university a message of disappointment and dismay that such a person would be invited to speak with no measure of balance in place. To do this, we are asking everyone to call CWRU and share his/her opinion. The best numbers to use are as follows:
-Office of CWRU President Barbara Snyder: 216-368-5094
-College of Arts and Science: 216-368-4413
Betar held a very succesful protest at Case Western during the speech on 12/11/08. American and Israeli flags were waved and people held posters which reading, "Teaching Hate Will Never Lead to Peace." We chanted, "End the Hate at Case.: Pics will be posted soon! We'll have to wait and see if this was the last step, or the first step in bringing balance to the prevelant anti-Israel/Jewish rhetoric at CWRU.
2) Jonathan Pollard: As President Bush's term in office comes to a close, Pollard has a better chance for a presidential pardon than he has had for a while. It is imperative that the White House hear from us. Please spend as much time as you can calling (202-456-1111) and writing (1600 Pennsylvania Ave, Washington D.C.) the White House over these next few months.
Betar is going to officially announce the week of Dec. 15 as "Free Jonathan Pollard Week." We will be going around the community selling free Pollard t-shirts and wristbands as well as distributing thousands of free Pollard postcards to be sent to the President.
3) Ethiopian School Supplies: Betar is currently collecting school supplies for impoverished Ethiopian children in Israel. There will be drop-off locations throughout the Cleveland area as of next week. The supplies will be brought to Israel on Dec. 24 by participants on Betar's WInter Trip to Israel.
