The two main cities for Betar in the US are New York,
New York and Cleveland, Ohio.
Cleveland: Cleveland has a
full-time Shaliach who coordinates activities, including weekly meetings
regular events.
New York City: New York Betar has a
full-time Shaliach who coordinates activities, including special events.
Fall Camp: Fall Camp 2005 was held near Cleveland, Ohio and
was a major success. The 3 day event was coordinated by Zeev Schneider, the
Shaliach for Cleveland.
Winter Tour to Israel: In December,
1997, Dennis Seaman of Cleveland Betar embarked on a journey that forever
changed Betar. After a year of encourangement by Mayor Daniella Weiss and
Development Director Raphaella Segal of Kedumim, Israel, Dennis brought a
delegation of 25 people to the town of Kedumin in Israel's Shomron region to
help build the city of 500 families which has since been expanded to about 1000
families.
Since that first trip, Betar and other groups around the
world have joined Cleveland Betar in Kedumim and in other Israeli cities.
Rather than spending their vacations seeing Israel through a bus window, tour
participants spend their time building Israel rather than just watching it. As
a result, other organizations have created sister-city programs to build
Israeli communities in the Yehuda, Shomron and Gaza regions to help build a
stronger Israel.
Spring Camp: Spring Camp is traditionally
held near New York City so Betar can participate in the annual Israel Day
Parade in New York City. The history of the Parade is traced to Betar which
created the first Parade. The parades are now being coordinated by the NY
Jewish Community Federation.
Each year for the past 15 or so years,
Cleveland Betar has led Betar in the parade both in numbers and spirit, as
Cleveland has the largest Betar group in the US. Kol Hakavod to Cleveland!
Summer Tour to Israel: Betar's summer tour to Israel also
goes to Kedumim. Now that Betar has a new Shaliach in New York City, we are
looking forward to the leadership of Shmulik Moyal as he coordinated this
year's summer tour - Kol Hakavod Shmulik! For more information about this trip,
please contact Shmulik at 646-742-9364. |
